George Alagiah
British newsreader and journalist (1955–2023)
George Maxwell Alagiah OBE (/ˌæləˈɡaɪə/; 22 November 1955 – 24 July 2023 was a British newsreader, journalist and television news presenter. He was born in Colombo, Ceylon.[1]
Since December 2007, he had been the presenter of the BBC News at Six and had also been the main presenter of GMT on BBC World News since February 2010. He was also the main presenter for the BBC Ten O'Clock News since the year 2000.
In April 2014, he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.[2] In March 2018, he said his cancer was terminal.[3] He died on 24 July 2023 from the disease in London, England, aged 67.[4]
