Dighton is a city in Lane County, Kansas, United States.[5] It is also the county seat of Lane County. In 2020, 960 people lived there.[4] Dighton is named after Dick Dighton, a surveyor.[6]

Dighton is at 38°28′52″N 100°27′59″W / 38.48111°N 100.46639°W / 38.48111; -100.46639 (38.48101, -100.466367).[3] It is at the intersection of K-96 and K-23. The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.87 square miles (2.25 km2). All of it is land.[3]

2020 census

The 2020 census says that there were 960 people, 461 households, and 244 families living in Dighton. Of the households, 75.5% owned their home and 24.5% rented their home.

The median age was 48.5 years. Of the people, 88.4% were White, 0.4% were Native American, 0.2% were Pacific Islanders, 4.4% were from some other race, and 6.6% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.3% of the people.[4][7]

2010 census

The 2010 census says that there were 1,038 people, 506 households, and 282 families living in Dighton.[8]

Education

Dighton USD 482 Public Schools has two schools in Dighton. They are the Dighton Jr/Sr High School and the Dighton Elementary School.[9]

The Lane County Library is in Dighton.[10]
