Kangwon Province (North Korea)

Kangwŏn (Kangwŏn-do) is a province o North Korea, wi its caipital at Wŏnsan. Afore the diveesion o Korea in 1945, Kangwŏn an its Sooth Korean neighbour Gangwon Province (an aw spelled Kangwon-do) formed a single province that excludit Wonsan.

Geography

The province is bordered bi Hamgyongnam-do tae the north, Pyongannam-do an Hwanghaebuk-do tae the wast, an Kaesŏng tae the sooth.

The province is dominatit bi the T'aebaek Muntains, the heichest peak o which is Kŭmgang-san ("Diamond Muntain").

Kangwŏn an Gangwon Provinces are thegither referred tae as the Gwandong region. The region wast o the Taebaek Muntains is cried Yŏngsŏ, while the region east o the muntains is cried Yŏngdong.
