The name o the dounset wis chyngit frae Šent Ilj (leeterally, 'Saunt Giles') tae Dramlje in 1955. The name wis chyngit on the basis o the 1948 Law on Names o Dounsets an Designations o Squares, Streets, an Biggins as pairt o efforts bi Slovenie's postwar communist govrenment tae remuive releegious elements frae toponyms.[2][3][4] Afore the name Dramlje wis appleed tae the dounset, it wis a regional name referrin tae a broad region north o Šentjur, stretchin frae Vojnik tae Ponikva.[5] This regional name wis attestit in 1043 as Teramperch (an as Dremel in 1354, Dreming in 1377, Dremyng in 1401, an Dråming in 1450). It is o uncertain oreegin; it mey be based on the personal name *Drama (indicatin some kynd o awnership) or mey be o pre-Slavic substratum oreegin. See an aw Dramlja.[6]
