ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ 2008 ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸ ਕਲਾਜ਼ ਅਵਾਰਡ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।[3]
ਮੁੱਢਲੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ
1961 ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮੀ, ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਅਹਿਮਦਾਬਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟ ਡਿਜ਼ਾਈਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਜ਼ੂਅਲ ਕਮਿਊਨੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ ਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਆਫ ਫੋਟੋਗ੍ਰਾਫੀ ਕੀਤੀ।[1]
ਕੈਰੀਅਰ
ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਫੋਟੋਗ੍ਰਾਫੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਝਲਕ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਤਬਲਾ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਾਕਿਰ ਹੁਸੈਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਫੋਟੋ ਖਿਚਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ। ਜਦੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹਮਲਾਵਰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਸਰਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੋਲੀ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਛੇ ਸਰਦ ਮੌਸਮਾਂ ਲਈ, ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਹੁਸੈਨ ਟੂਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤ 1986 ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਜ਼ਾਕਿਰ ਹੁਸੈਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਾਕਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ “ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ” ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੁਸੈਨ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਹੁਨਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੇਂਦਰਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ।[4]
ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਫੋਟੋ ਜਰਨਲਿਸਟ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੀ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ "ਮਾਈ ਸੇਲਫ ਮੋਨਾ ਅਹਿਮਦ" 2001 ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਫੋਟੋਬੁੱਕ, ਜੀਵਨੀ, ਸਵੈ-ਜੀਵਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਪਨਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਸ਼ਰਣ, ਇਹ 'ਵਿਜ਼ੂਅਲ ਨਾਵਲ' ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਭਰਿਆ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਰੁਟੀਨ, ਪਰ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਫੋਟੋ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਪੱਛਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬੇਚੈਨੀ ਸਰਲ, ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਲੈਂਜ਼ਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ।[5][6]
