Jerry Garcia
Jerome John «Jerry» Garcia (1. august 1942–9. august 1995) var ein amerikansk musikar best kjend som sologitarist, vokalist og låtskrivar i Grateful Dead.[1][2] Sjølv om han ikkje likte rolla, vart Garcia av mange sett på som frontmannen i gruppa.[1][2][3][4]

Som ein av grunnleggjarane spelte Garcia i Grateful Dead gjennom heile den 30 år lange tida dei eksisterte (1965–1995). Garcia starta og deltok òg i mange sideprosjekt, som Saunders-Garcia Band med venen Merl Saunders, Jerry Garcia Band, Old and in the Way, den akustiske duetten Garcia/Grisman og Legion of Mary.[1] Garcia var med å starte New Riders of the Purple Sage med John Dawson og David Nelson. Han gav òg ut fleire soloalbum, og medverka på innspelingane til mange andre artistar som studiomusikar. Han hadde ein særeigen gitarstil og vart rangert som den 13. beste gitaristen gjennom tidene av Rolling Stone.[5]I seinare år vart Garcia stundom sjuk på grunn av ustabil vekt, og i 1985 gjekk han inn i diabeticum, som nesten kosta han livet. Sjølv om helsa hans betra seg noko etter dette, kjempa han òg mot heroinavhengigheit,[3][4] og var lagt inn på eit rehabiliteringssenter i California då han døydde av hjarteattakk i august 1995.[2][4]
