അമേരിഗോ വെസ്പുസി
അമേരിഗോ വെസ്പുസി (/vɛˈspuːtʃi/;[1] Italian: [ameˈriːɡo vesˈputtʃi]; മാർച്ച് 9, 1454 - ഫെബ്രുവരി 22, 1512) ഒരു ഇറ്റാലിയൻ പര്യവേഷകനും, ധനസഹായകനും, നാവിഗേറ്ററും, കാർട്ടോഗ്രാഫറുമായിരുന്നു. റിപ്പബ്ലിക്ക് ഓഫ് ഫ്ലോറൻസിൽ ജനിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം 1505-ൽ ക്രൗൺ ഓഫ് കാസ്റ്റിലിലിലെ സ്വാഭാവിക പൗരനായിത്തീർന്നു.[2]

"അമേരിക്ക"യെ പുതിയ ലോകമെന്നാണ് വ്യാഖ്യാനമായി പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നത്. അമേരിക്കസ് എന്ന പദത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് അമേരിക്ക എന്ന പേർ ലഭിച്ചത്. വെസ്പുസിയുടെ ആദ്യനാമത്തിന്റെ ലാറ്റിൻ പതിപ്പ് ആണിത്[3][4].
