Los premios Primetime Emmy a la mejor serie dramática (Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series) es uno de los galardones Primetime Emmy.
En la historia de este galardón se produjeron variados cambios de nombre. Primero eran llamados Mejor show dramático de 1952 a 1954, luego se pasó a llamar Mejor serie dramática (Best Dramatic Series) en 1955 y 1956. En 1957 no se entregó ningún premio a una serie dramática, pero en 1958 su nombre fue cambiado y dividido en dos categorías: Mejor serie dramática antológica y Mejor serie dramática con personajes continuos, pero solo se eligió un ganador de las dos categorías. El nombre se cambió nuevamente en 1959 Mejor serie dramática de menos de una hora. En 1960, nuevamente, el nombre se cambió a Logro sobresaliente en programa del campo dramático, nombre que persistió desde 1960 a 1964. En 1966, tuvo su sexto cambio de nombre a Mejor serie dramática o mejor serie de drama, nombre usado hasta hace poco, cuando se convirtió en Mejor serie dramática (Outstanding Drama Series).
