File:Soyuz MS-19 Crew Qualification Exams.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Chinakpradhan (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This is a non-free Soyuz MS-19 mission crew photo used a list article. The image is not needed to understand this is one of many manned ISS flights. Fails WP:NFCC#8. Whpq (talk) 18:42, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose:- This is required as requires a crew imagery as is seen with other images. Besides I have followed all the rules and regulations needed that using this image does not harm the Roscosmos and their website Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:57, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This non-free image of the crew of Soyuz MS-19 is not needed to understand the mission article. As well, the crew are living people. Fails WP:NFCC#8 and WP:NFC#1. Whpq (talk) 18:45, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose:- This is required as requires a crew imagery as is seen with other missions of similar kind. Besides I have followed all the rules and regulations needed that using this image does not harm the Roscosmos and their website Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:59, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Support In an edit I reverted myself, I had previously voted oppose, on the grounds that the crew are a "disbanded group" in the sense of the exception to WP:NFCC#8 stated in that rule. I had not realized that this is a future mission, and that a free alternative (published by NASA) will most likely become available as the mission progresses. In light of this, there is no need for either this file or the one discussed directly above. Renerpho (talk) 03:38, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose:- This is a purely Roscosmos mission not involving nasa as there is no nasa astronaut here. So no images will be provided by NASA. Forget free images. So two images are as Wikipedia prohibits usage of a fair use media to be used on more than one one page without much need. so both these non free images are needed in wikipedia. I initially tagged this as missing evidence of permission, but Renerpho (talk · contribs) questioned whether this is copyrightable. I guess that there are two questions. First, are astronomical photos like this above the threshold of originality? I don't know how much creative freedom a photographer has to take photos like this. Secondly, is the photographer a human, or are these photographs taken automatically by a machine? --Stefan2 (talk) 21:01, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Stefan2: Thanks for bringing this up here. To clarify: Whether the photographer is a human (it's not, in this case) isn't relevant, and neither is whether astronomical photos are above the threshold of originality (they generally are, even if taken by a robotic instrument). The issue is that the original image is published by NASA (part of the US government), and NASA's publications are in the public domain. The only thing that makes this copyrightable, in my opinion, is the overlayed text (consisting only of the letters A, B, C, and a scale bar). My question was whether this text meets the threshold of originality. Renerpho (talk) 22:28, 27 September 2021 (UTC) EDIT: Original discussion and argument can be found here. There is no evidence that the copyright holder has released this into the public domain. The part about expiry of the British copyright is irrelevant as the British copyright was restored by Council Directive 93/98/EEC of 29 October 1993 harmonising the term of protection of copyright and certain related rights.  Comment: It looks like Sfan00 IMG (talk · contribs) simply added the {{information}} template. Both the photo description and metadata suggest the photo was taken in June 2004 — this suggests Andromeda321 (talk · contribs) is indeed the author. Ixfd64 (talk) 18:34, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The original uploader didn't specify where the image came from. The date could have been mentioned on a website where the uploader found the image or he could have seen it in the metadata. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:30, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
