On the assessment side, there are still a lot of articles that need to be assessed for their quality and their importance to this project. Interest has remained on a level of a few articles every few weeks in assessment of articles. Of the current 1731 articles, 424 have not ben assessed for quality, also of which 413 have not had their importance to the project assessed either. Please can there be an effort to do this, just like an effort was done to the articles in UK Railways. Congratulations to all the people involved in getting Edgar Speyer to good article status. Well done for this achievement. Please can people become more involved with other areas of the portal. The portal still seems to be only gaining contributions on the selected article and picture areas. It seems there is still a general lack of interest in the portal other than these areas. Interest in other areas are okay.

Sorry for this being a quarter of a year late as i have been busy with work. As usual, this issue is in the current format and is still awaiting suggestions for other improvements. No new Did You Knows were available for this so have not been included, instead other Did you know suggestions were. Please provide any suggestions for any improvements to this newsletter and any comments or anything else to include in the next issue. Please can ideas be given for a better layout on this newsletter. Feedback is much appreciated. This edition has an even larger TfL news section as the previous edition was launched in October and there have been many changes since then. It is at least back to near the start of the month. The tree is meant to represent new year, please suggest a better image if possible. I also apologise for not releasing this 3 days ago again. This is a revived edition, partly as this still has had support from many people and the paper's subscribers and would not be here without you all.

Usually, one should not revert when an editor blanks a page they newly created. It should be taken as {{{db-self}}}. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 23:03, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Must be a flaw with Huggle. WP:CSD#G7 allows for the creator to blank the page. It would not be appropriate to revert, with or without Huggle. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 23:35, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Transport in Buckinghamshire
Hi Ollie, no worries ref the typo correction,. I'm currently working on re-writing the article on the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and after that may have some tweaking to do on the Tube map article. However as someone with an interest in transport in Bucks, I have the page on my watchlist, and will see if there is anything I can contribute, although it seems to be coming along fine so far :o) ColourSarge (talk) 20:44, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for deleting the whitespace. Obvisouly, that comment kind of upset me a little, and I was tired. I went to bed shortly after, and didn't do it myself. I hope she comes back soon--I know I shouldn't because she assumed the worst of me, but I feel rather guilty that I chased somebody away. --Call me Bubba (talk) 19:50, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I hate seeing text like that- people think that when typing here you can indent with a space like when writing, not realising you should use a colon. If only they used the preview button...! Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 19:53, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- That, and if they thought about the level of professionalism needed to write an enclycopedia, they would know that adding a few sentences about the unusual sex habits of dwarves might seem rather odd. --Call me Bubba (talk) 19:57, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah. Several things- roughly how old are you? I mean are you an adult, a teenager like me or younger? And second- do I need to keep adding {{talkback}} to your talk page or have you got this page on your watchlist?
- I saw what that user added- using the word midget can be confusing. It may be derogatory or completely harmless. Who knows? Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 20:02, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks.
- I feel like a teenager, but I'm eighteen. Well, I guess I'm eighteen, aren't I?
- Feel free to keep on adding on the talkback temp. --Call me Bubba (talk) 21:47, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

This years WikiCup started off great! It's only the second full week of competition, and we already have a lot of content promoted. We have some very close pools, such as Pool A and J. We also have some pools who have not been very active yet, but hopefully that will start changing in the coming weeks. Garden and iMatthew have also opened a new pool, the "Judge's Pool" where we are competing against each other and following the same rules as all of you. This pool however, will never have any effect on the actual competition, but you can still check back often to see how we are doing compared to yourself. That's it for this newsletter edition, everyone. Any questions or comments are always welcome on the WikiCup talk page, or our user talk pages. Nesting categories
Ollie, I suspect this is something you haven't come across before. It applies to every article, not ones just those about MK or Bucks. It is considered bad practice to list categories that are nested within other categories. For example, you shouldn't have Category:MGM Hollywood and Category:Hollywood and Category:Los Angeles and Category:Califonia and Category:USA and Category:North America. So "Category:Transport in MK" and "Transport in Aylesbury" should each include a "Category:Transport in Bucks" tag, but you mustn't that tag additionally in each article. Nor should you put "transport in England", "Transport in the UK", or "Transport in Europe" either. I'm sure that there is a Help:Category that explains this better somewhere. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 20:16, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, I see now what the mistake is. Yes, there was no problem with you adding the template (which I really ought to have checked out first, so we're even). The problem is that there shouldn't be a "Category:Transport in Buckinghamshire" embedded in the template, because it creates the nesting problem I've described about. I'll leave it to you to fix as no doubt there are knock on consequences. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 20:21, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- But it is absolutely a question of categories, you can't just ignore a long-standing Wikipedia policy. (You are welcome to put the Transport in Bucks template on that article or any other MK transport article, but it mustn't contain a Category statement). --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 20:26, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Done Thanks for telling me. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 20:38, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. If I had studied your template properly in the first place, we'd have identified the real problem earlier.
- I assume you checked other Bucks transport articles to check that they've still got the category statement? (i.e., you added your template to what was there before, not replaced an existing Category statement). [No need to reply, just a nudge that may be stating the obvious]. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 20:13, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Could you...
Could you show me how to manualy update my Talk page? (I wouldn't wan't you to be annoyed!) TheCiscoKid Talk to me 21:43, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
- Go to your preferences and go to the 'Gadgets Tab'. Look down the list for the 'User interface gadgets' things. Then tick the penultimate box in that list, the one that says 'Add a "*" tab to the top of the page, which purges the page's cache when followed.'. Follow the instructions at the bottom of your preferences page under the save button. After that you should be able to press the tab with the asterisk (*) at the top of the page to purge the cache which should update it. If it doesn't, edit your talk page and place the exact same {{your chesspage}} template where it is already (don't change anything-you're not making an edit). Save the page and it will have been updated. That won't count as an edit, as you haven't actually done anything. Bear in mind that there are probably easier ways to do this, but I find it easiest to just copy and paste the template into the same position as before. It always works!
- I'm not annoyed! I'm glad to be of help. If my instructions were unclear, ask again and I'll go through it more thoroughly. Thanks. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 23:50, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Wiki gaming
I wanted to ask you what the general rules where on gaming site article's on Wikipedia. I wanted to add a specfic game to this list: List_of_multiplayer_browser_games, however is there a policy I have to stick to? If I include enough context, do you think it will be able to stay?
In fact it does seem that a lot of web-based games' articles have been proposed for deletion, but I would value your viewpoint :). —Preceding unsigned comment added by ²wenty³ (talk • contribs) 11:36, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- The general rule for anything like this is notability. Find a reference for the game to cite it and then you can try adding it. If you want to create an article for a specific game, you will have to find several good sources, see here for information. Have you created any articles yet? If not, read that!
- If you make a page and do not indicate any reason why it is notable- (why is this game notable!) then it may be proposed for deletion. You can ask and consider joining here if you want more info. I think some of your questions may have been answered on the articles talk page.
- I hope this helps. Remember to sign! You designed a nice signature, use it! Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 13:10, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

We're still going strong. Couple of things though; please note that you must make it known you are in the WikiCup when nominating FAs, FLs, FPos, FPs, and FSs. This is to lower the possibility of bias. We're also changing the way you get to the next round. Now, the top two from each round get through, along with ten wildcards. This means that even if you're not in the top two you can still get into Round 2, so even if you're in the group of death you can still go through. Hopefully this will be fairer for all.
