Hi, I’ve added the source. Most slaves who came from Upper Guinea were highly valued for their knowledge of rice cultivation on the western coast of the USA. In Sierra Leone and the surrounding region, this primarily applied to sedentary and agricultural ethnic groups, such as the Mandingo, who currently make up 7% of Sierra Leone’s population. On the other hand, the Poulards/Fulbes are pastoralists and were not present in Sierra Leone until the 18th century when they arrived in small numbers as traders. Today, they constitute 3.4% of the country’s population, with most of them coming during the 1960s and 1970s as political refugees from Guinea under President Ahmed Sékou Touré.
