Life and career

Early years and life outside of music

Sean Rolie was born into a musically rich environment in San Francisco, California. His father, Gregg Rolie, is a renowned musician known for his work with Santana, Journey, and Ringo Starr. Sean's early exposure to the studio environment at iconic studios including Skywalker Sound, The Record Plant, and Fantasy Studios set the stage for his future career in the music industry. Sean is a partner and Co-Owner at Flat Creek Estate Winery in Marble Falls, Texas.[3]

Career Beginnings & Black Bone Child

Sean started his music career in 2001 as a guitarist, vocalist, producer, engineer, and songwriter with his band "Tritium" in Southern California. [4] Despite experiencing the fluctuations of the music industry, including interactions with major labels and regional tours, Sean relocated to Austin, Texas to stay ahead of the curve and be a part of one of the fastest growing music scenes in the U.S.

In Austin, Sean formed the band "Black Bone Child," .[5] which gained national attention and toured with prominent acts such as The Black Crowes, The Dead Weather, and The Sword.[6] Although Capitol Records showed significant interest in the band's unique sound, internal conflicts within the band prevented a record deal.

Engineering, Production, & Warm Studios

Sean transitioned to the role of head engineer for Grammy-nominated producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith at The Bubble Studios in Austin.[7] During his time there, Sean collaborated with Smith on numerous projects, refining his skills as an engineer and producer. Eventually, Sean decided to pursue his career independently.

In 2019, Sean began a new musical collaboration with his father, including directing the music video for “What About Love” leading to the establishment of his personal studio, Roliewood just outside Austin.[8][9] Dedicated to overdubs and mixing, Roliewood acts as a sanctuary for intimate producing, performing, and mixing music across various genres. Sean is also currently Executive Producer & Chief Engineer at Warm Studios in Austin, Texas. A studio commissioned by professional audio equipment manufacturer, Warm Audio. Sean is actively working with artists around the country, further solidifying his reputation in the industry.
