Torkamanchay

Torkamanchay (Persian: تركمانچای, Azerbaijani: Türkmənçay/تورکمنچای)[a] is a city in, and the capital of, Torkamanchay District of Mianeh County, East Azerbaijan province, Iran,[4] and also serves as the administrative center for Barvanan-e Markazi Rural District.[5] A suburb of Mianeh, it is well known for the Treaty of Turkmenchay of 1828.[citation needed]

Demographics

Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 6,434 in 1,645 households.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 7,094 people in 1,984 households.[7] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 7,443 people in 2,366 households.[2]
