Not clear

'German rule over southern Africa is commonly mistaken for Britain's rule over India.' What does this mean? Valetude (talk) 18:42, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Somebody is deliberately vandalizing this page by changing the word "British" to "German".Frankwm1 (talk) 18:38, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Human trafficking?

Human trafficking is the modern form of slavery, and should fit naturally into this article. Valetude (talk) 21:47, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Failure to discuss modern slavery and apartheid — misleading?

This article focus exclusively on “Chattel slavery”, while neglecting to discuss slavery-like arrangements under Apartheid, human trafficking, and other forms of “modern slavery”. Note that these practices are defined as slavery in “Modern Slavery” legislation in many countries.

“Slavery” does not usually refer only to chattel slavery in colloquial use. The absence of discussion of broader forms of slavery on South Africa, is likely to give readers the impression slavery has not existed since the 1830s. Giving a clearer understanding of these is particularly prudent given the widespread inequality, human trafficking, economic exploitation and history of apartheid in Southern Africa.

Could this warrant a warning template, pending further article content?ExoticViolet (talk) 01:53, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Impact/legacy

The article also needs a section on the legacy of slavery in the Cape, including the origin of the Cape Malays and South African Indians. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:26, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
