All citations I've found for the quote "I believe I told you he would not steal a red hot stove. I will now take that back" in the conversation between Thaddeus and Lincoln point to a chapter [Thaddeus Stevens by McCall, Samuel W.(Samuel Walker)Publication date 1899 p.311-312] entitled "WIT AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS." I've checked all attributions of various notes in that chapter and have yet to find a proper reference for any of the quoted anecdotes. Pictures

The pictures currently in this article seem to me to be a bit interchangeable. It might be better to drop one and use this Joseph Keppler caricature at the time of his resignation from the U.S. Senate. But I leave it to someone else to make the call. - Jmabel | Talk 00:30, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I agree. They look similar. I'd replace the last one with that picture. I am such a dimwit that the only thing I can do is let you know here.164.215.0.189 (talk) 16:59, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
