Please remove this hatnote on top per WP:NOTAMB, it is usually preferable not to have a hatnote when the name of the article is not ambiguous. 2001:4451:824F:B700:5007:9004:1AE9:2312 (talk) 12:19, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Leaning towards not removing it as I can see how people would get printing press confused with printing in general, but I'll leave this open for others to review. Deauthorized. (talk) 13:35, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
N Agreeing with Deauthorized here. NotAGenious (talk) 15:03, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

At one point, "pronting" should be changed to "printing". 123.51.107.94 (talk) 01:39, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

  • What I think should be changed: In section The Printing Revolution, please change:
The need for bibles and other religious literature, especially in the new world, was one of the principle factors that brought printing into the common world.

The need for bibles and other religious literature, especially in the new world, was one of the principal factors that brought printing into the common world.
  • Why it should be changed: Use of incorrect homophone.

Done, sort of. This poor passage rewritten. What is the "common world" supposed to be? Johnbod (talk) 17:46, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

Wrong title

This should be the improved version of moveable-type printing, more akin to an early version of a printing press. To be accurate, Europe was not the first country to invent moveable-type printing. Moveable-type printing was invented in China during the Tang Dynasty, between 1041 and 1048, and not in Europe in 1440 as commonly believed. To be precise, China was the first country to develop moveable-type printing. 3rddwtt (talk) 00:22, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

I was researching this and saw that there's no link to https://www.search.com.vn/wiki/en/Movable_type from this page - thought in the first occurance of that phrase that link could be helpeful.

I don't have an account that can make that edit (new account) but maybe someone will see this, who can make that change? Oaksterwikster (talk) 02:10, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out. I have added a link. Keith D (talk) 12:26, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
I just noticed the body of controversy in the history of this talk page—was it really so unclear before that movable type and the printing press were distinct? Oh, early Wikipedia... Remsense 12:30, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

"gutenburg invented the movable type printing press"

it was invented in korea?https://courier.unesco.org/en/articles/200-years-gutenberg-master-printers-koryohttps://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20211014000753 Esziii (talk) 12:35, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Esziii See the comment above. Movable type (invented in the East) and the printing press (invented in Germany) are two distinct things. Also, the UNESCO source does not mention "printing press" once, The Korea Herald uses the words only in the title, but this seems clickbait or a mistake as movable type and the printing press are not the same, as already stated. Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 12:46, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Just to make it clear: movable type refers to the individual type pieces (e.g., a letter or number) used for printing; the printing press is a mechanical device that applies pressure to the movable type to transfer ink onto paper. Eem dik doun in toene (talk) 13:24, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
