history

this claim is highly speculative and at least ought to marked as such: "The breed originated in ancient Rome during 43-89 AD,for example, dogs fought alongside the Romans and the British in the Roman Conquest of Britain." it's not as though a firm chain of recording keeping for 2,000 years exists to substantiate this. i'm not saying that this is not possible, but as a historical matter, it is at best conjecture.

Media Phenomenon vs Actual Breed Temperament

I need to say this, but since it's not in wikipedia rules I can't put in the article. Maybe someone can help me turn it into acceptable material.

A quick look at the list of attacks shows a fairly clear pattern - a few accidents happen. Then some people get a presa because it's "really dangerous and can kill people". Those people shouldn't own any dogs, leave alone a powerful guard breed. Then more accidents happen, more news coverage, more idiots attracted to the breed.

A lot of the problems are not so much related to the breed (which *is* a tricky one) but to the wrong people being attracted to the breed.

All this is fairly well known... but how do I document this in a format that is not "my point of view" and put it in the article? Most of the sources are fairly biased one way or another... either angel or demon. Hard to find something balanced to quote.

Main image

I found a good quality image at wikimedia. I think it would be a better main image to this page. However, it is already used in the text. Adventurous36 (talk) 19:07, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Death of diane Whipple

Should this article note that two presa Canaria dogs killed Diane Whipple and the owners were charged with manslaughter? 71.246.222.105 (talk) 14:08, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
