Northwest Georgia → Northwest Georgia (U.S. state) – I boldy moved this page to Northwest Georgia (U.S. state), only to have it reverted a couple of months later with the edit summary Nonsense. The dis-ambiguation suffix implies that it is a U.S. state itself with that name, not a division of Georgia. The title Northwest Georgia is ambiguous an can be used to describe an area of the U.S. state or the country and almost all Georgia-related articles use a disambiguator (the exception being City, State articles for Georgia, USA), so it fails WP:NAMINGCRITERIA. I propose this page moves to Northwest Georgia (U.S. state), which is recognizable and unambiguous. Zarcadia (talk) 11:44, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

          • That assumes that (1) things only have 1 name (2) Wikipedia's name is the only way to name a topic; That clearly fails usage in the real world, since Wikipedia has redirects for use with alternate names already. • Oppose - Listen, Michael Jackson is theoretically incredibly ambiguous. There are probably hundreds of Michael Jacksons in the world. But none of them have articles about subjects that are as noteworthy as the Thriller artist. Same thing applies here; what's important about northwest Georgia in the Caucasus? • It's not an arbitrary distinction (North Tennessee or Northwest Wales or Southwest Spain or even East Georgia would be arbitrary distinctions, but Western China or Eastern Washington are not). It's an interesting stretch of land between an enormous metro area and a mountainous mid-sized metro area, and it has relatively distinct and obvious boundaries. It's a reasonably distinct cultural and geographical region. Red Slash 02:56, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

• NW Georgia in the Caucuses is Abkhazia, so is quite important in international affairs, since it's just like Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. It's an interesting stretch of land between an enormous metro area and a mountainous mid-sized metro area, and it has relatively distinct and obvious boundaries. It's a reasonably distinct cultural and geographical region. Sorry Red Slash, it may be interesting to you but that doesn't make it notable, or more so than the area of the country. • Strong rename per nom. Though the disambiguator is rather misleading, as it isn't about a state called "Northwest Georgia", it is a region in Georgia, so perhaps Northwest Georgia (U.S.) is better. This article is not about Abhkazia which is also NW Georgia, and a separatist region, referred to as the northwest of Georgia. -- 65.94.169.222 (talk) 06:05, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

• Oppose article should go to Afd for Delete instead of rename, as there is no evidence in a reliable source that this constitutes a notable division of the US state of Georgia. I see from the Images for "Northwest Georgia" that there is not much agreement about what exact area is to be included in "Northwest Georgia". --Bejnar (talk) 03:21, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

• Support (U.S.) or (United States) could work too, and deal with a number of concerns. The title is ambiguous, and Northwest Georgia does not recognisably, preponderantly refer to the American region. —innotata 19:14, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
• Oppose In terms of usage in reliable sources, and in particular Wikipedia title namespace, the current title is not ambiguous. That is, we have no other topic that has a claim on this title. That's the context that matters when deciding if a given title is ambiguous on WP. Since it's not ambiguous, it should not be disambiguated. • How about Northwest Georgia (USA) as above. I agree "Northwest Georgia (US State)" would be confusing to people who don't know American geography, and could think that there is a state called NW GA, much like West Virgina.
