Is there a source to back up the claim that Story's drive inspired this novel? I'd always heard that it was one of the later drives (like the one documented in "Log of a Cowboy").Intothatdarkness (talk) 16:23, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Both the Bozeman Chronicle article [1] and the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame site [2] both attribute Lonesome Dove to Story. Additionally, this source [3] (not in the article yet) has this story: The Real Lonesome Dove, Nelson Story and the First Texas to Montana Cattle Drive, By Dan Gagliasso. If the claim is in debate (actually the Lonesome Dove article attributes the inspiration to another drive) I'd to see that. --Mike Cline (talk) 18:04, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not quibbling about the inspiration, but rather pointing out that if we're going to say that we need to cite some source. Otherwise it looks like either opinion or OR.Intothatdarkness (talk) 19:11, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can be sourced AND weaseled! "Those who study Nelson Story and local Bozeman newspapers have claimed ... however, the authors of the work claim otherwise, attributing their inspiration to ... (cite) (cite) (cite)." Montanabw(talk)20:28, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
