I was surprised that this page didn't already exist as the song is quite famous. I did a search first but I couldn't find it. SmokeyTheCat •TALK• 19:41, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Sinead O'Connor's version
Sinead O'Connor's name, that I had added, was scratched away immediately, because it apparently was 'not notable compared to those listed here'. Now that's a point of view. I would suggest that various versions of very various artists should be included here, to inform various Wikipedia users. That's not something to decide for one editor with one point of view. - The song has been recorded by a very large number of singers. Listing them all is not the job of this encyclopedia. There are specialist websites for that, like Musicbrainz, AllMusic, Discogs, and many more. If reputable sources discuss Sinéad O'Connor's recording as notable, that can be included overleaf in the section currently titled "Versions". That section heading should probably be changed to "Notable recordings" and its content sourced, or trimmed. Mere appearance on an album doesn't make it notable. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:15, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- very large number, that I doubt. Special websites are not of any interest for Wikipedia. I don't have access to as many 'reputable sources' that you probably have, as an Englishman or American. I just saw it broadcast on Dutch television a week ago. So far, I didn't see any argument from your side other than your point of view ('notable recordings' again is just a point of view). - It's not my view – Wikipedia guidelines state that it is not an indiscriminate collection of facts. All material needs to be supported by independent published verifiable sources. Whether a recording is notable can easily be determined by the presence of such sources. Special websites are very much of interest to Wikipedia articles: you'll find them at the bottom of millions of articles. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 03:20, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
