Dab name

Note that a much better disambiguating title would use a middle name.A web search didn't turn one up.— Toby Bartels, Wednesday, July 17, 2002

Parkinsons

What I didn't put in the bit about Parkinson's disease is that Walker said that he heard that it can be brought on by athletic activity, according to http://www.coolrunning.com.au/editorials/1997e007.shtml.I figured that I'd let somebody who knows that this isn't just a crock of BS (even if it might be controversial) put that in.— Toby Bartels, Wednesday, July 17, 2002

Unsourced claims

"Walker had also defeated Bayi in a number of races over 1 mile & 1500 m leading up prior to the 76' Olympics."

I'm not sure this is true - as far as I am aware, Walker and Bayi had not met over the mile or 1500 meters since the 1974 commonwealth games. I'll see if I can verify this...Canada Jack 21:53, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I've checked this and as far as I can determine, Bayi and Walker met three times over the mile and 1500 between Bayi's 1974 Commonwealth Games world record and the 1976 Olympic Games: June 27 1974, Walker 3:33.89 to Bayis's 3:37.20; February 7, 1975, Bayi 3:59.6 to Walker's 3:59.9; February 15, 1975 Bayi 3:56.6 to Walker's 3:59.9. That makes it Bayi 2 victories to Walker's 1. Accordingly, I will alter the assertion. Canada Jack 04:22, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Walker Bet Bayi in the 1975 World Games in Helsinki.

I deleted the image. We have a problem in here. The image was "johnwalker.jpg" but in the license description is written "Steve Scott, runner, after completing mile race around Queen's Park, Toronto". Who is he at last? MachoCarioca (talk) 01:52, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that's John Walker in the photo. Rudolph89 (talk) 05:59, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

It's definitely John Walker. I had also uploaded a photo of Steve Scott and somehow put his name in here. I've fixed the caption. Canada Jack (talk) 17:42, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Walker or not, it isn't a very clear photograph - doesn't anyone have a better image? Muzilon (talk) 20:00, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

It's definitely Steve Scott, who ran for the Sub 4 Track Club, an American club, during this period of his career. Walker ran for his own local NZ club or country. Also, although bearing some facial resemblance to each other, Walker's hair was much longer than Scott's in this picture. Finally, compare the photo in the "Steve Scott" entry; they're almost identical. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.118.2.242 (talk) 17:52, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

I took the photo - this is John Walker. Indeed, I took the photo of Steve Scott as well which appears on his page the very same day at the same event in 1982. A close look reveals these are two photos of two different men. Canada Jack (talk) 18:32, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Well then, my friend, if you took the photo that settles it. But tell me why John Walker, the New Zealander, is wearing Scott's American track club singlet, eh? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.118.2.242 (talk) 21:58, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
