Pronunciation of "Caloundra"

Can someone familiar with this community add information as to the pronunciation of the name? Richwales 07:01, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Done. Thanks to Arnzy for providing this info. Richwales 17:15, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Pronunciation disagreement

I edited the pronunciation to show that the 'd' in Caloundra is pronounced as a J sound. Someone reverted this to a d sound (but did change the final schwa sound to an ʌ sound and I do agree with this change). Now, I'm an Australian, and I have friends in Caloundra. The ONLY time I would see the d pronounced as a D is from a foreigners perspective. But no Australian would ever pronounce it as a D, always a J. Instead of reverting the other party's revert of my edit, I'm bringing this discussion here as I'm 100% sure I'm in the right but don't want to start a revert war KesshouRyuu (talk) 23:33, 27 December 2019 (UTC)

Caloundra's D is pronounced like the D in Dry where Dry is pronounced /dʒɹaɪ/ KesshouRyuu (talk) 23:41, 27 December 2019 (UTC)

"but don't want to start a revert war" – which you then did. /dʒ/ produces a sound like "jam", which is not how "dry" (Macquarie: /draɪ/) or "Caloundra" is pronounced in any dialect. Following WP:BRD, I'm going to restore the original pronunciation until your version finds consensus. This page is not widely watched, so I suggest you raise the matter at some project talk page, e.g. at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian places or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Queensland. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 05:41, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
I am no expert with IPAC but I am a long time Queensland resident and native Australian English speaker and visited Caloundra most of my life and the D in Caloundra does not sound remotely like "jam" to me. Kerry (talk) 04:59, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Population data

I have removed the table below and following sentences because it was uncited and, when I tried to find citations, I can't find census records that match these numbers. To begin with, there is no UCL data (what you normally use for a town) for Caloundra in the 2021 Census at all (which is somewhat curious, but it is what it is). The 2016 value is the number of people in the Caloundra state electorate (not the town). There is no value in the 2011 census that matches the population value for 2011 below (possibly it's the addition of some of the values?). Happy to see a population table restored if the data is cited and appropriate.

Census populations for the Caloundra urban centre have been recorded since 1933. Since the 2001 census, it is divided between the Caloundra North and Caloundra South statistical local areas. The drop between 1981 and 1986 reflects an adjustment of the boundary with the Kawana Waters urban centre.[citation needed]
