Caesar personally made the rounds amongst his men, telling them that if the scarcity of food was too much, he would lift the siege and withdraw. His soldiers protested, refusing to end a siege in disgrace when they still had to avenge the innocent Romans murdered by the Gauls. There are sevral problemes with this sentce. First as far as I know Ceaser rarly if ever made made rounds with his men. Second why would his soldiers refuse to leave and instead starve. I know the romans had a high sence of honor but still if they were starving and they had a chance to leave why starve. Sources tell us this. De Bello Gallico, Book 7,17. 'praestare omnes perferre acerbitates, quam non civibus Romanis qui Cenabi perfidia Gallorum interissent parentarent.' Probably abit of propaganda, but sources are sources.79.6.240.151 (talk) 10:50, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Question

Not that I'm an historian, but I have seen other versions of this story, in which Vercingetorix sent his cavalry off to get reinforcements, and they came back with 250,000 men. However, it was too late, because the Romans had dug in by them and could not be beaten. Sardaka (talk) 11:48, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

POV tag

I've added the POV tag due to the heavy reliance on Caesar's Commentaries, which is consider a POV source. BilledMammal (talk) 01:44, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
