Is there a source for this being published in 1852? Library of America and The Benet Reader's Encyclopedia both list this as 1851 so I've edited accordingly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.81.14.25 (talk) 23:51, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

An editor insists a "sic" is needed for "Graylock" as used by Hawthorne (rather than "Greylock"). The variant is and has been common in the US for a long time, is found in well over a hundred books, is found in news articles, postcards sold at the mountain, etc. I consider that "sic" is used for errors and incorrect spellings - not for spelling variants common to the area. Ought "sic" be used for a common spelling variant in the United States? Collect (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
