Ames' Masonic connections...

There are a lot of assumptions being made here that are not really appropriate to be made, because the information given does not support the conclusions drawn. This source, which is "Progressive men of Minnesota." Published by The Minneapolis Journal, 1897, does not indicate that Ames was a member of the Scottish Rite. What it says is:

"Dr. Ames has been Master of Hennepin Lodge, No. 4, of the Masonic order; High Priest of St. John's Chapter, No. 9; Eminent Commander of Zion Commander, No. 2, Knights Templar, and Grand Chancellor of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Minnesota. He has been Chancellor Commander of Minneapolis Lodge, No. 1, Knights of Phythias, Grand Chancellor of Minnesota and Supreme Representative to the Supreme Lodge of the world from this jurisdiction. He was on the charter list of No. 44, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the pioneer lodge of the Northwest, and its first Exalted Ruler. He is a member of the G. N. Morgan Post, No. 4, G. A. R."

Note the date is 1897 on that piece. If Ames was not a member of Scottish Rite (and the above article does not indicate that; it's about the only Masonic thing not there, and is therefore conspicuous by its absence), he was likely not a 33rd degree Mason, and likely did not become one. Ames' obituary also does not claim current membership at the time of his death, nor does the 1897 piece; it merely says he served in certain offices at some unspecified point in time. Keeping in mind that his trial was five years after the article above, he may very well have resigned or been expelled by then. MSJapan (talk) 21:07, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
