Reliable source needed

The squadron has two decorations that are a bit unusual. The first is the 1972 Philippine PUC. I believe this is for typhoon relief in Luzon. The second is the Outstanding Unit Award with V. This is undoubtedly for the Mayaguez Incident. I can find a reference for the participation of the 345th's parent wing in the Mayaguez operation (It dropped a 20,000 lb bomb to clear a helicopter landing zone), but nothing on the squadron. At the time of these awards, the squadron was geographically separated from the wing -- located in Japan while the wing was in the Philippines -- so I'm not sure that the squadron actually participated as a unit in either operation, and didn't just get the awards as part of the wing. --Lineagegeek (talk) 21:47, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
