'operational army'

This statement is incomplete.

The 1st Assault Aviation Corps was part of the 'operational army on the front line October 17, 1942 to February 5, 1944, just 477 days.

Boevoy Sostav shows them with 2nd Aviation Army on 1 May 1945, part of 1st Ukrainian Front, operational forces engaged against Germany. What apparently happened between 1 February and 1 March 1944 was the elevation to "Guards" status.

Cheers,
