Howie Shannon is listed as being drafted in 1949, but it looks like he was already playing for Providence Steamrollers in 1948–49. I did find this at a discussion board at apbr.org, "In regards to Harry Gallatin, I found a 22Mar49 article in the Frederick (MD) News Post which states that Gallatin, Howie Shannon and George Kaftan were drafted by New York, Providence and Boston as part of an agreement that they could be signed during the 1948-49 season prior to the 1949 draft." Would anyone have access to the Frederick News Post mentioned or find any other reliable sources that can be added to the article? —Bagumba (talk) 07:05, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I think it's resolved with this edit. Seems he was ruled ineligible for college in 1948–49, played with Providence that season, but the BAA forced the team to draft him the following year to secure his rights.—Bagumba (talk) 13:20, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
