Rachel Lance is an American biomedical engineer and writer, focusing on the physiological effects of submarine pressure on people. She is an Assistant Consulting Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University.[1] Lance earned her BS and MS in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan.[2] She then worked as a biomedical engineer for the US Navy, designing equipment for underwater operations.[3] Following her work at the Navy, she earned her Ph.D. at Duke in 2016.[1] She is the author of two books, In the Waves: My Quest to Solve the Mystery of a Civil War Submarine[3] and Chamber Divers: The Untold Story of the D-Day Scientists Who Changed Special Operations Forever.[4]
