Slaughter was raised in the Canadian city of London, Ontario, which he categorizes as a "car-dependent hellscape."[2] He and his family immigrated to Amsterdam in the Netherlands because of the car-centric suburban sprawl common in Canada and the United States, which makes it more difficult to walk, cycle, and make use of public transportation.[2]

Impact

Slaughter's 2021 video "Stroads are Ugly, Expensive, and Dangerous (and they're everywhere)" helped popularize the concept of the stroad.[citation needed] In the video, he criticizes stroads for their cost, inefficiency, and lack of safety in the United States and Canada and how cites can improve them.[12]
