Miss Universe 2024

Miss Universe 2024 will be the 73rd Miss Universe pageant. It will be held in Mexico for the first time since the country last hosted in 2007.[1][2] Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will crown her successor at the end of the event.

Background

Location and date

On 18 November 2023, during the Miss Universe 2023 pageant, businessman Raúl Rocha Cantú announced via a video presentation that the 73rd edition will be held in Mexico.[3]

Selection of participants

In September 2023, during the Tanner Fletcher show at New York Fashion Week, Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel said that the Miss Universe Organization had made the decision to remove age restrictions for contestants over the age of 18, which would be implemented starting with the 2024 edition. Prior to this change, the pageant had restricted participation to women between ages 18–28 on the year of the pageant, outside of special circumstances. Also, there will be no height and no weight restrictions.[a][5][6]

Debuts, returns and withdrawals

This edition will mark the debut of Belarus, Eritrea, Iran[b], Maldives, Mayotte, Moldova, North Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan.[7][8] This edition will also feature the returns of Cuba, which last competed in 1967; Fiji in 1981; Guadeloupe and Martinique in 1984;[9] the Democratic Republic of the Congo[c] (as Zaire) and Samoa (as Western Samoa) in 1986; Senegal in 1987; Gibraltar in 1990; Bonaire, Cook Islands, and Suriname in 1999;[10][11] Azerbaijan, Botswana, and Estonia in 2013; Turks and Caicos in 2014; Montenegro and Serbia in 2015; Austria in 2017; Zambia in 2018; Bangladesh, New Zealand, Tanzania, and the United States Virgin Islands in 2019;[12][13] Kenya and Romania in 2021; and Armenia, Belize, China, Haiti, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uruguay which last competed in 2022.[14][15]
