Spanish-style guitar by C. F. MartinCirca 1845Aside from several guitars with Ivory fret-boards, this is the highest grade of Martinguitar at the time. It has many featuressimilar to pre-Torres Spanish guitars beforethere was a distinction between classical andflamenco guitars; a Spanish body shape, asolid headstock with friction tuners, a tiebridge and decoration along the center of thesides of the guitar. Martin Style 3-171859Early Martin nomenclature was establishedwith the guitar's size as the prefix (beforethe hyphen) and the instrument's wholesaleprice as the suffix. Prices would rise, but thesuffix would become synonymous with theappointments and styling.
