Elizabeth Shown Mills

Elizabeth Shown Mills (born 1944) is an American author, historian, and genealogist. She is known for her debut historical novel, Isle of Canes (2004).[3][4][5] Mills served as president of the American Society of Genealogists (ASG), and was also the editor of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly.[3][5][6]

Biography

Elizabeth Shown Mills was born on December 29, 1944, in Cleveland, Mississippi.[7][8][1] Most of her career has been focused on researching the history of the American South.[1] She was previously married to Gary B. Mills, also an author and historian, who died in 2002.[1][2]

Mills started her career as the secretary of the ASG (1992–1995). From 1995 to 1998, she was the vice president and became the president of ASG from 1998 to 2001.[9]
