The Person I Loved Asked Me to Die in My Sister's Stead(恋した人は、妹の代わりに死んでくれと言った。―妹と結婚した片思い相手がなぜ今さら私のもとに?と思ったら―) is a Japanese Light Novel created by Mizuki Nagano and illustrated by Saori Toyota. The full title is "The Person I Loved Asked Me to Die in My Sister's Stead -Why is the unrequited love who married my sister comes to me now? I wonder-". In short #The Person I Loved (#恋した人は)[3]. It was serialized online from November, 2020 [4] to September, 2022[5] on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was later acquired by TO Books, who has published 5 volumes since September, 2021[6]. After October, 2022, the published novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō are no longer accessible[7].

In addition to Novel's Tankōbon, a Manga adaption by Maki Yamori has been serialised on TO Books comic website Corona EX since June 6, 2022. 3 volumes have been published by TO Books.

The release of English version manga (Vol. 1) is scheduled on June 10, 2024 (the English title is "The Person I Loved Asked Me to Die in My Sister's Stead"), published by Tokyopop[8].

A Drama CD scripted by Mizuki Nagano has been scheduled to release on August 1, 2024[9].

Plot

Wisteria, who lost her birth parents in an accident, was raised as an adopted child in an earl's family. From a young age, she harbored secret feelings for her childhood friend, Bright, from a ducal family. Wanting to be of help to him, who couldn't use magic, she devoted herself to researching the underworld - "The Predawn Realm," where filled with miasma and is linked with the source of magic.

One day, her stepsister Rosalie was chosen as the guardian of "The Predawn Realm". This meant becoming a sacrifice, essentially signifying death. Wisteria, who was asked by a distraught Bright to take Rosalie's place, realized Bright's feelings for Rosalie and recognizing her unrequited love, she accepted to be the guardian of "The Predawn Realm," . Though she was supposed to die alone there, she luckily survived with the help of the sacred sword Sartis. Since then, she lived in solitude while fighting monsters.

Until one day after 23 years , a man named Lloyd, who bore a striking resemblance to Bright appears, and Wisteria's destiny began to move once again.

Characters

Wisteria Irene
The protagonist of the story[1], who has been the guardian of "The Predawn Realm" for 23 years. She lives with the sacred sword Saltis who can talk.[15].Already in her 40s[16], but her appearance hasn't changed since entering "The Predawn Realm" when she was 20 year-old[15].In the original world, she is apparently feared as a "witch"[15].

Sacred sword Sartis
A sentient sword that has existed since the age of mythology[15].Ever since feeling pity for Wisteria's circumstances and accompanying her to the "The Predawn Realm", it has been by her side for 23 years[15]. Lloyd Allen-Luining
A 22-year-old young man who arrived at "The Predawn Realm"[16]. The son of Bright and Rosalie[16], making him Wisteria's nephew without blood ties. While declaring his intention to defeat Wisteria and claim the sacred sword Saltis, he also proposes to become her disciple[16].
