Colma station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station located in unincorporated northern San Mateo County, California adjacent to the incorporated town of Colma and city of Daly City. The station is served by the Red and Yellow lines.
Colma station is situated in a small valley shared with BART's Daly City Yard and a large parking garage. The station has three tracks, with an island platform between the two eastern tracks and a side platform next to the western track. Only the two eastern tracks are used for revenue service.
History
Colma was previously served by the Southern Pacific Railroad until passenger trains were discontinued in the early 1900s. The right of way was reused to construct the Daly City BART yard in the late 1980s and then the extension further into San Mateo County.
Construction of the BARTstation began in May 1992 as the first stage of the extension to San Francisco International Airport. It cost $170 million: $128 in federal funds, $21 million in state funds, and $21 million from SamTrans. The station included a five-level, 1,400-space parking garage and a footbridge over the yard tracks to an additional surface lot.[2]
The station opened on February 24, 1996. It was the southern end of the BART system on the San Francisco Peninsula until the extension to the airport and Millbrae opened in 2003.[3] Colma station was "prominently featured" in the 2006 film Colma: The Musical.[4]
Bus connections
A busway on the east side of the station serves SamTrans bus lines ECR, 112, 120, 122, 130, and 138, along with a shuttle to the Crown Colony condominium development.[5][6]
