Austria Wien won the 2012–13 Bundesliga.[1] As champions, Austria Wien entered the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.[2] Austria Wien also participated in the Bundesliga[3] and the Austrian Cup.[4] Peter Stöger left Austria Wien to become head coach of German 2. Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln on 11 June.[5] Nenad Bjelica succeeded Stöger on 17 June.[6] The players reported for pre–season on 18 June.[7]
