Harry A. Pollard (23 de xineru de 1879, condáu de Republic – 6 de xunetu de 1934, Pasadena) foi un direutor, actor, guionista y productor cinematográficu d'Estaos Xuníos, activu na dómina del cine mudu, y que a lo llargo de la so carrera trabayó en más de 300 producciones. Una d'elles foi la primer adautación al cine de la comedia musical representada nel circuitu de Broadway Show Boat
Biografía
Nacíu en Republic City, Kansas, Pollard empecipió la so carrera d'actor nos estudios Selig Polyscope Company. En 1913 fixo'l papel de Tíu Tom en Uncle Tom's Cabin, d'Otis Turner, dirixendo en 1927 una versión pa Universal Studios na cual la so esposa, Margarita Fischer, encarnaba a Eliza (nel primer filme ella fuera la esclava Topsy).
En 1916, tres 83 filmes, Pollard dexó definitivamente la carrera d'actor (la so última interpretación tuvo llugar en The Pearl of Paradise), prefiriendo dedicase principalmente a la direición (en total dirixó 107 producciones). Amás, escribió 18 guiones y produció 8 películes.
En 1929, xunto a Arch Heath (non acreditáu), dirixó la primer versión de Show Boat, protagonizada por Laura La Plante, y que cuntaba na so repartida con Florenz Ziegfeld, productor del musical de Broadway.
El so últimu trabayu d'una cierta importancia foi A Feller Needs a Friend para Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, con Jackie Cooper. Dexó definitivamente'l cine con Fast Life.
Harry A. Pollard finó en 1934 en Pasadena, California, por causa de un cáncer. Foi soterráu nel Campusantu Forest Lawn Memorial Park de Glendale. Había estáu casáu cola estrella del cine mudu Margarita Fischer, trabayando con ella tantu en producciones teatrales como cinematográfiques.
