Biografía
Primeros años
El so verdaderu nome yera William Edgar Buchanan, y nació en Humansville, Missouri. Siendo mozu, la so familia camudar a Oregón. Al igual que'l so padre, aportó a un bon dentista. Casóse con Mildred en 1927, y en 1939 el matrimoniu treslladóse a vivir a Altadena, California, onde él se xunió al Pasadena Playhouse como actor. Debutó nel cine en 1939, dempués de lo que dexó la odontoloxía. Foi miembru de la Fraternidá Theta Chi y Francmasón.[4]
Carrera
Buchanan actuó en más de cien películes, incluyendo ente elles Penny Serenade (1941), con Cary Grant, Tombstone, the Town Too Tough to Die (1942), The Man from Colorado (1948), Cheaper by the Dozen (1950), She Couldn't Say No (1954), McLintock! (1963), con John Wayne, Move Over, Darling (1963) con Doris Day y James Garner, y Benji (1974). Ente les series televisives pa les qu'actuó figuren Hopalong Cassidy, Judge Roy Bean (na qu'interpretaba al Xuez Roy Bean), l'episodiu "Duel at Sundown" de Maverick, con James Garner y Clint Eastwood, Leave It To Beaver (como "Tíu Billy" y "Capitán Jack"), Dimensión Desconocida, Gunsmoke, Bringing Up Buddy, The Californians, Bus Stop, The Lloyd Bridges Show, Cade's County y The Rifleman. En total actuó nos 222 episodios de Petticoat Junction, en 17 Green Acres, y en 3 de The Beverly Hillbillies. Ente 1960 y 1962 interpretó cuatro veces a Cletus McBain na producción del xéneru western de la NBC Laramie, con John Smith y Robert Fuller.
Fallecimientu
Buchanan finó por causa de un accidente cerebrovascular complicáu con una neumonía en Palm Desert, California, y foi soterráu nel Campusantu Forest Lawn Memorial Park de Los Angeles.
